Accessing Capital Markets
Startups and early-stage companies in the nanomaterials ecosystem need access to adequate capital, particularly due to the long research, development, and commercialization timelines required for material science innovations. Under-investment often leads to funding gaps during a critical period known as the “valley of death,” – which encompasses activities such as market development, manufacturing scale-up, pilot production and, more broadly, commercialization.
At NIA, we equip our members with the tools, resources, and expert guidance needed to secure the capital they need to move their businesses forward. We proactively advocate to sources of capital, helping them recognize the immense value generation that nanomaterial innovations create. Additionally, we play a pivotal role in connecting capital providers with companies driving these groundbreaking advancements.
Furthermore, NIA advocates for government action to significantly boost their domestic nanomaterial industries by going beyond its traditional role in basic and early applied research. Pre-competitive investment by governments can help companies maximize their capital, achieving more with less. We also educate governments about the ongoing geopolitical competition for dominance in nano-enabled technologies and the aggressive industrial policies that are creating competitive imbalances in the global marketplace.
