Summary

  • OECD is consulting on a draft Test Guideline for nanomaterial solubility and dissolution rates (pH 5–8).

  • Public comments accepted through November 11, 2025.

The OECD has opened a public consultation on its draft Test Guideline for determining solubility and dissolution rates of nanomaterials in environmental fate assessments. The consultation runs until November 11, 2025.

The draft guideline provides methods to measure apparent solubility over 24 hours and dissolution rates up to 72 hours across pH ranges of 5-8. The protocol consists of Part A (batch test for solubility) and Part B (time-resolved batch test for dissolution rate). The methods aim to generate cost-efficient, reproducible data for risk assessments and regulatory dossiers under REACH and TSCA.

Canada Elevates Nanomaterials in CEPA Assessment Priorities

Canada's latest Plan of Priorities highlights nanomaterials for enhanced scrutiny, with a new strategy to identify which nanoforms in commerce need assessment. Nanomaterials are explicitly included in upcoming risk-assessment initiatives. Authorities plan to identify data gaps and knowledge needs to support decision-making on nanomaterial priorities. The prioritisation framework considers hazard and exposure indicators, including carcinogens, endocrine disruptors, long-range transport…

EPA Publishes Significant New Use Rules (SNURs) for MWCNTs ( Cloned )

The EPA has finalized new rules targeting multi-walled carbon nanotubes — and companies handling them may need to act now to stay compliant.Employers face strict respiratory protection mandates, with required protection factors varying based on how effectively exposure is captured and reduced.MWCNTs are flagged for a sweeping range of health hazards — from carcinogenicity and reproductive toxicity to aquatic harm — triggering mandatory GHS-aligned hazard communication.Generating vapor, mist, dust, or aerosol during processing triggers reporting requirements unless operations are fully enclosed.

OECD Requests Input on Draft Guidance for Toxicokinetics Testing of Nanoparticles

The OECD is conducting a public consultation on draft guidance for adapting toxicokinetics studies to nano- and microparticles. The consultation closes November 11, 2025. The guidance addresses design considerations including dosing, formulation, and kinetic sampling to ensure toxicokinetics data accurately represent particulate materials. The document will support harmonized human health assessments for nano-enabled products across OECD member countries. Find out more about the consultation on…
