The ECHA NMEG held its 23rd meeting in Helsinki on 7–8 May 2026, focusing on regulatory and scientific developments concerning nanomaterials under REACH. ECHA reported the continuous growth in nanoform registrations and the number of Technical Completeness Checks by April 2026. Ongoing compliance checks and evaluations continue for titanium dioxide (TiO₂), zinc oxide (ZnO), graphene oxide, pigment red 112, and synthetic amorphous silica (SAS. Discussions highlighted persistent challenges in nanoform evaluations, and Member States proposals to relieve the situation. Dedicated presentations were also on the agenda regarding the current status of how to determine nanoform “sameness” and grouping strategies”.
Emerging New Approach Methodologies (NAMs), including digital twin technologies for nanomaterial hazard prediction, were also discussed as potential tools to reduce animal testing and accelerate nanosafety assessment by NIA member InFinite. In addition, the European Commission provided updates on the forthcoming Advanced Materials (AdMA) Act, expected in Q4 2026.
