As part of its work in the iCare Project, the NIA managed and chaired a workshop on grouping and read across of advanced (nano) materials. Kai Paul from NIA Member Blue Frog Scientific gave the introductory talk to introduce the recent ECHA funded work that has been undertaken to support a framework for identifying single nanoforms. This was followed by talks from Damjana Drobne (University of Ljubljana) on the ACCORDS characterisation for linking biological effects with physicochemical characteristics of graphene based 2D materials and Elise Model (TEMAS Solutions) on the iCare application of grouping approaches. The talks were followed by a panel discussion with the speakers and experts from ECHA, industry and regulations.
The workshop provided a good introduction to the challenges of using grouping and read across approaches for nano and other advanced materials for regulatory purposes. A recording of the workshop can be found on the NIA’s YouTube channel.
