Summary

ECHA is inviting scientists, risk assessors, economists and other technical specialists to join a new pool of experts supporting its scientific committees. Experts may contribute to assessments of complex chemical safety issues and emerging regulatory challenges, helping to strengthen the scientific basis of EU decision-making. Interested professionals are encouraged to consult the full call for details on the expertise sought and application requirements.

The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) is seeking experienced scientists, risk assessors, economists and technical specialists to join a new pool of experts supporting its Committees for Risk Assessment (RAC) and Socio-Economic Analysis (SEAC).

Experts may be invited on a case-by-case basis to contribute specialised scientific and technical knowledge, support committee rapporteurs and working groups, and help assess complex issues linked to chemical safety and emerging EU legislation. The call covers a broad range of expertise, including toxicology, exposure and environmental risk assessment, socio-economic analysis, life-cycle assessment, substitution of chemicals of concern, and several new regulatory areas.

Most assignments will be carried out remotely, with experts engaged only when specific needs arise. The expert pool will be valid from January 2027 onwards.

Canada Releases Nanomaterial Risk Assessment Framework Under CEPA

Environment and Climate Change Canada and Health Canada have jointly published a new Framework for the Risk Assessment of Manufactured Nanomaterials under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA). The document clarifies how nano-specific characteristics will be factored into regulatory evaluations, confirming that while traditional chemical risk assessment principles remain applicable, they must be supplemented with nano-specific data and characterisation methods. The framework…

How NIA Membership Opened the Door for InFinite Biotech to Shape the Future of Nanomaterial Risk Assessment

At the May 2026 meeting of the ECHA’s Nanomaterial Expert Group (NMEG), NIA Member Infinite Biotech presented a novel “in-vitro-learned digital twin” platform (InFinite™) designed to predict long-term health effects of nanomaterial exposure using advanced New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) and digital modelling. The platform combines live cellular monitoring, mechanistic modelling, and in silico disease evolution to generate rapid predictions of long-term toxicity while potentially reducing…
